Create your first Palworld server
Install Palworld on your rig, set up a world with the wizard, and share the address with your friends.
On this page
Palworld is the fastest of our games to get running. This page covers installing it on your connected rig, setting up a world, and getting your friends in.
The dashboard splits Palworld into two parts. The server is the Palworld install on your rig. A world is one save running on that server. Palworld has a single map, so you name a world instead of choosing a map, and one server can run several worlds.
Step 1: Install Palworld
- Open your rig in the dashboard and click Add server.
- Choose Palworld under Game.
- Click Create server.
The download is about 5 GB, so on most connections it finishes in a few minutes. You can watch the progress in the dashboard or close the tab and check back.
Step 2: Set up your world
Click Set up my first world to start the wizard. It’s available while the install runs. If you’d rather work through the settings on your own, click Configure manually.
The wizard asks thirteen questions, and each answer describes how the game plays. Five are about your group: PvE or PvP, how many players, which platforms they’re on, whether there’s a join password, and whether the server shows in Palworld’s Community Servers list.
Four shape the game: how much grind you want, how long big eggs take to hatch, how demanding survival is, and what dying costs.
Two are about comfort: in-game voice chat, and the standard quality-of-life settings. Those settings include turning off structure decay and the inactivity penalty, so bases don’t rot and friends who take a break aren’t penalized.
The last two cover backups and restarts. By default, your world is backed up every 6 hours and restarts daily at 4:00 AM. The restart matters more for Palworld than for most games, as Step 4 explains.
Finally, type a name for your world. Review my choices shows everything the wizard will set, and Create my server applies it.
Step 3: Change settings later
Every answer can be changed from the world’s settings. Presets change a batch of values at once, in three areas: rates, Pals, and players. Each area has Default, Relaxed, Balanced, and Hardcore.
Palworld mods aren’t supported. The game’s server mods only run on the Windows version of its server, and Server Reforged runs the Linux version.
Step 4: Start the world
Click Start on your world. The first boot takes a minute or two, and later starts are quicker.
Palworld’s memory use climbs the longer the world runs, and a restart brings it back down. That’s what the scheduled restart from the wizard is for. You can change it under Scheduled restarts in the world’s Schedule panel.
Game updates install when you choose. Click Update game, or Update & restart if the world is running.
Step 5: Share the address
The world’s card in your dashboard shows the address under Direct connect. Your friends join with it from inside Palworld:
- On the main menu, choose Join Multiplayer Server.
- Enter the address.
- Click Connect, then enter the join password if you set one.
The address ends in a colon and a port number, such as :8211. Make sure your friends copy all of it. Without the port, the connection fails as if the server were off.
If you kept the server listed in Community Servers, friends can also find it there by name. The address is quicker.
Adding more worlds later
Click Create world to add another world to the same server. Each world has its own name, settings, and save, so your group can keep a serious world and a casual one side by side.
Each new world gets its own port, so its address is different from the first world’s. Share the address from that world’s card.
